Felivet Herpesvirus Antibody Rapid Test
Short Introduction
FHV-1 is primarily an upper respiratory and ocular pathogen, with only sporadic involvement of the lungs. Viremia levels are low, thought to be related to the natural temperature sensitivity of this virus, which would favor replication in the upper respiratory tract. Exposure of pregnant queens can lead to abortion, but infection with FeHV-1 infection is not a common cause of abortion in cats. In neonatal kittens, the infection can generalize and is associated with neurological signs and a high mortality rate.
The Felivet Herpesvirus Antibody Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the semi-quantitative detection of Felivet Herpesvirus Antibody (FHV Ab) in dog's serum or plasma.
Principle
The Felivet Herpesvirus Antibody Rapid Test is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test card has a testing window for the observation of assay running and result reading. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and a C (control) zone before running the assay. When the treated sample was applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow through the surface of the test strip and react with the pre-coated FHV recombinant antigens. If there are FHV antibodies in the specimen, a visible T line will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, which indicates a valid result. By this means, the device can indicate the presence of FHV antibodies in the specimen.
Test Procedure
-Allow all materials, including specimen and test device, recover to 15-25ºC before running the assay.
-Take out the test device from the foil pouch and place it horizontally.
-Drop 3 drops (approx. 90μL) of the serum or plasma specimen into the sample hole "S" of the test device.
-Interpret the result in 10 minutes. Result after 15 minutes is considered as invalid.
Interpretation Of Result
The presence of "C" line indicates a valid result. Read the result by comparing the color intensity of the "T" line with the standard color reference scale (from "G1" to "G6").
The titers of canine distemper antibodies are corresponding with the color intensity grades.
G1 < 1:10 |
G2 = 1:20 |
G3 = 1:40 |
G4 = 1:80 |
G5 = 1:160 |
G6 > 1:160 |
-Positive (+): The presence of both "C" line and zone "T" line. T line at G3 is considered as standard positive. T line < G3, is weak positive and indicates low FHV antibody level. T line around G4-G5, is strong positive. T line > G6, is very strong positive, indicates a contact with virus recently or in infection.
-Negative (-): Clear C line appears. No T line, or T line is weaker than G1. It indicates very low FHV titer. Failed immunization may happen.
-Invalid: No colored line appears in C zone.
