Feline herpes virus, also known as viral rhinobronchitis, is widespread all over the world, and only one serotype has been confirmed, but its virulence varies among virus strains. The herpes virus in cats replicates and proliferates in the conjunctiva and upper respiratory epithelial cells, as well as in neuronal cells. Neurogen infection can lead to lifelong latent infection.
The Feline FHV Ab Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the semi-quantitative detection of Feline Herpesvirus Type-1 Antibody (FHV Ab) in cat's serum, or plasma.

Principle
The Felivet FHV Ab Test is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test card has a testing window for the observation of assay running and result reading. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and a C (control) zone before running the assay. When the treated sample was applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow through the surface of the test strip and react with the pre-coated FHV recombinant antigens. If there are FHV antibodies in the specimen, a visible T line will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, which indicates a valid result. By this means, the device can indicate the presence of FHV antibodies in the specimen.

TEST PROCEDURE
- Allow all materials, including specimen and test device, recover to 15-25ºC before running the assay.
- Take out the test device from the foil pouch and place it horizontally.
- Place 1 drop (or 30μL) of serum specimen into the sample hole "S" of the test device. Then place 2 drops (or 60μL) of the diluted specimen into the sample hole "S" of the test device.
- Interpret the result in 10 minutes. Result after 15 minutes is considered as invalid.
INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
The presence of "C" line indicates a valid result. Read the result by comparing the color intensity of the "T" line with the standard color reference scale (from "G1" to "G6"). The H.I. titers of canine parvo virus antibodies are corresponding with the color intensity grades.
Positive (+): The presence of both "C" line and zone "T" line. T line at G3 is considered as standard positive. T line < G3, is weak positive and indicates low FHV antibody level. T line around G4-G5, is strong positive. T line > G6, is very strong positive, indicates a contact with virus recently or in infection.
- Negative (-): Clear C line appears. No T line, or T line is weaker than G1. It indicates very low FHV titer. Failed immunization may happen.
- Invalid: No colored line appears in C zone.
